Zwyczajne niezwyczajne

Mijałam to miejsce wielokrotnie, aczkolwiek przechodziłam nieuważnie zostawiając je za sobą daleko w tyle. Fasada budynku nie ma w sobie nic szczególnego, co mogłoby przyciągnąć uwagę. Zwyczajna kilkupiętrowa kamienica, niepozorne wejście, obok punkt wymiany walut i restauracje. Nic efektownego. Casa do Alentejo (Dom Alentejo) nabiera ciut blasku wieczorową porą i jeśli czyjś wzrok podąży w górę, to zobaczy niebieski neon z nazwą tego miejsca. Na mnie jednak, to też nie podziałało. Dopiero moja sąsiadka odkryła przede mną to niezwykłe miejsce, gdzie czuć historię i gdzie czas zatrzymał się w miejscu. Jestem jej za to wdzięczna, ponieważ Casa do Alentejo naprawdę zasługuję na wizytę. Jest to jedno z najciekawszych miejsc w Lizbonie. Warto je zobaczyć, bo ma wiele dekoracyjnych odsłon.

Arabska mozaika

Efekt wow pojawia się natychmiast po przekroczeniu progu Casa do Alentejo i pokonaniu kilkunastu stopni schodów w górę. Ku naszemu zaskoczeniu przez nami ukazuje się wnętrze pałacowe o charakterze arabskim. Jakbyśmy weszli do świata baśni tysiąca i jednej nocy. Uwagę zwracają przepiękne mozaiki na ścianach, geometryczne wzory, feeria barw i bogactwo motywów dekoracyjnych.

Splendor francuskiego klasycyzmu

Na piętrze wyżej czeka inna rzeczywistość. Tutaj największe zainteresowanie budzi Salão dos Espelhos (Sala Luster), która bez wątpienia jest przepiękna. Urządzona w stylu Ludwika XVI zachwyca złotawym wnętrzem z bogatą ornamentyką, kryształowymi żyrandolami, niewielką sceną i przeogromnymi lustrami, w których odbija się splendor francuskiego klasycyzmu. Ile wystawnych bali i kolacji się tutaj odbyło? Ile obficie zastawionych stołów oświetliły te żyrandole? Ile odbić ludzkich twarzy widziały te lustra? Pewnie nikt nie zliczy. Co ciekawe, można się tutaj bawić dalej, gdyż sala wynajmowana jest na różne uroczystości okolicznościowe.

Portugalska pieczęć

Nie może zabraknąć również portugalskiego akcentu we wnętrzach Casa do Alentejo. A nic nie jest tak charakterystyczne dla tego małego kraju jak dekoracyjna sztuka azulejos. Na pierwszym piętrze mieści się restauracja, w której podają dania kuchni portugalskiej. Nie oczekujcie nic spektakularnego, jedzenie jest proste, ale smaczne i w dobrej cenie. Warto tu zajrzeć chociażby po to, aby zobaczyć wspaniałe wnętrze restauracji udekorowane niebiesko białymi płytkami azulejos. 

Bujna przeszłość

Zbudowany najprawdopodobniej pod koniec XVII wieku, budynek Casa do Alentejo niejedno ma imię. Nazywany jest również Palácio Alverca (Pałac Alverca) czy Antigo Palácio Pais do Amaral (Dawny Pałac Wicebrabii Alverca). Według historii należał do rodziny arystokratów – wicehrabiego regionu Alverca. Swego czasu nazywano go także Palácio São Luís (Pałac Świętego Ludwika), ponieważ znajdował się naprzeciwko kościoła pod tym właśnie wezwaniem. W ciągu swojej długiej historii pałac mieścił też liceum oraz magazyn mebli. Na początku XX w. miejsce przeszło gruntowną modyfikację. Pomiędzy 1917-1919 r. przekształcono część starego pałacu w pierwsze kasyno w stolicy Portugalii, Magestic Club. Do 1928 roku kasyno, które w trakcie swojego funkcjonowania zmieniło nazwę na Monumental Club, przyciągało wielu gości nie tylko do sali gier, ale również na wystawne przyjęcia do Salão dos Espelhos (Sala Luster). W 1932 r. budynek został wynajęty Grémio Alentejano, stowarzyszeniu regionu Alentejo, które z czasem przyjęło nazwę Casa do Alentejo. W 1981 r. stowarzyszenie nabyło budynek na własność od pierwotnych właścicieli, aby rozgościć się tutaj na dobre.

Casa do Alentejo – palace in the center of Lisbon

I passed by this place many times, however without paying any attention to it at all, leaving it far behind me each time I walked by. The facade of the building has nothing special that could attract one’s attention. An ordinary tenement house with typical entrance, with money exchange point and some restaurants nearby. Really nothing spectacular. Casa do Alentejo (the House of Alentejo) might take on shine in the evening. If someone looks up, they will see a blue neon with the name of this place over the entrance door. Nevertheless, it does not work in all cases. At least it did not work for me. It was only my neighbor who introduced this amazing place to me where you can smell the history in the air and where time seems to have stopped. And I am super grateful to her cause Casa do Alentejo is the place to visit for sure.

Arabic mosaic, French Classicism and Portuguese white & blue stamp

The wow effect occurs immediately after crossing the Casa do Alentejo threshold and going up the stairs. To our surprise, a palace interior in Arabic style appears in front of us. As if we entered the world of the tales from the Arabian nights. Beautiful mosaics on the walls, geometrical patterns, a variety of colors and a wealth of ornaments draw visitors’ attention. A different reality awaits on the upper floor. The most interesting here is Salão dos Espelhos (The Hall of Mirrors), which is undoubtedly beautiful. Decorated in Luis XVI style, it delights with a warm golden interior, rich ornaments, crystal chandeliers, a small stage and of course enormous mirrors. How many magnificent balls and splendid dinners took place here? How many generously laid tables illuminated these chandeliers? How many human face reflections have these mirrors seen? Probably no one can count. Interestingly, you can still have fun here, because the room is rented for various occasional events. On the first floor, there is also a restaurant, where Portuguese cuisine. is served Do not expect anything spectacular, the food is simple but tasty and at a good price. It is worth checking out to see the magnificent interior of the restaurant decorated with blue and white Portuguese tiles azulejos.

The rich past

Casa do Alentejo was most probably built at the end of the seventeenth century. Since that time, the building has been given many different names. It is also known as Palácio Alverca (Alverca Palace) or Antigo Palácio Pais do Amaral (Former Palace of Vicebrabia Alverca). According to history, it used to belong to the aristocratic family – the Viscount of the Alverca region. At one time, it would also be called Palácio São Luís (Palace of Saint Louis), as it was situated in front of the church under this saint’s name. During its long history, the palace also housed a high school and furniture warehouse. At the beginning of the 20th century, the place went through profound modifications. Between 1917-1919, some part of the old palace was transformed into the first casino in the capital of Portugal, the Magestic Club. Until 1928, the casino, which in the meantime changed its name to the Monumental Club, attracted many visitors not only to the games room but also to the gorgeous parties at Salão dos Espelhos (Hall of Mirrors). In 1932, the building was leased to Grémio Alentejano, the association of Alentejo region, which in time got the name of Casa do Alentejo. In 1981, the association acquired the building from the original owners to settle down here for good.
